The High School Game Day team and TV Middle School cheer team traveled to Heath High School to participate in an Americheer Spirit Series event. The Vikings won big with both teams not only winning their divisions, but also winning Grand Champions for the High School and Middle School age groups. The high school also won an “In Bid” to travel to Florida to participate in Americheer’s International Championship in Orlando, Florida.
Coach Hannah Kerr started this Game Day team last year in hopes of making competition cheer accessible to more cheerleaders. Game Day puts more of an emphasis on sideline cheer and crowd leading. They ended the 2020 competition season as OASSA State Champions. With 16 returning members, this team of 24 is led by seniors Hayleigh Burns, Chloe Danison, Jozey Hanger, Alexa Johns and Rylie Wilburn. When asked for a quote about the day, Rylie replied, “I am just so proud to be a Viking! This team has worked through so much adversity this season, as COVID has hit sports very hard. But we have come through it all with a smile on our face and continue to fight through the tough times when they arise! These girls are my entire heart, and I am so ready to continue this season, and get our traditional team on the floor.”
Coaches Kerr and Kinzer are really excited with such a strong start to the season. This team has set the bar high, but their coaches know they will surpass all expectations this season with their exceptional work ethic and attention to detail!
