“Great results, can be achieved with small forces.”- Sun Tzu The Girls XC team put a little twist on the weekend before the Conference meet and the postseason begins. The girls were split into a 9/10th grade race and an 11th/12th grade race. With support from many of their awesome teammates, the stage was set for a great day on the cross country course. The 11/12 grade race began the day and with only 3 girls in the race they were not able to qualify for a team score, but the individuals went out and competed hard and represented Teays Valley with effort and attitude. Julie Charter, in only her second race since returning from injury showed more comfort in attacking the course, and led the Vikings by placing 15th with a season best time of 21:50. Iris Ardrey, showing improvement week by week throughout a strong senior season ran a season best 22:37 and placed 36th. Not to be outdone, Shaeden Wymer would run a personal best time of 34:25 finishing 172nd. The 9/10 grade race brought some excitement from the young Vikings. The Vikings were led by the young freshman duo of Kyleigh Cradlebaugh and Lauren Charter. Moving up and progressing throughout the whole race, the girls gave the Vikings two top 14 finishers. Running an excellent last mile, Kyleigh finished 6th overall with a time of 21:15 as she continues to make improvements week after week preparing for the postseason. Lauren Charter continued a strong freshman season showing great poise throughout the whole race, setting herself up for a great finish finishing 14th with a time of 21:36. Continuing her ascension and improvement from last season, Hannah Daniels ran a personal best of 24:38, finishing 107th. Another young lady who has showed great improvement from freshman to sophomore year, Ellie Smith ran a personal best of 26:20 and finished 143rd. It was fun to see her excitement after the race and how deservedly proud she was of herself after all the hard work she has put in. Despite only having 7 runners across 2 races, the Vikings showed their strength and produced great results on the day, showing that small forces can indeed produce great results.
