“Vulnerability is not about winning or losing. It’s having the courage to show up even when you can’t control the outcome.” —Brené Brown In a season that presented many challenges, the Teays Valley Girls Cross Country team were up against their biggest one of the season. The Division One Pickerington Super Regional provided some of the toughest competition assembled not just in the state, but the nation. Central Ohio has long been respected as a highly successful and competitive running hub for many years and has not let down. After dealing with many challenges across the season, including some injuries, the Vikings had their full roster of girls to compete in the race. Seeded by the data bases and prediction websites to finish between 13th and 15th, the Vikings got off to a smart start and moved up throughout the whole race. Battling across the whole race and competing for each precious spot. In the end, the Vikings would finish 11th, 13 points from qualfying for the Division One State Meet as a full team. A great effort and great race from the team. The Vikings were led by their dynamic duo of senior Reese Galinger and Addie Keplar as they each qualified to the state meet as individuals with Reese finishing 3rd (18:00) and Addie finishing 18th (19:03). This would mark Reese's 3rd time qualifying for the meet as an individual and Addie's 2nd time. Each girl ran a great race, controlling themselves early and moving forward from mile to mile and closing hard to the finish to secure their spot at the Sate Meet. Fellow senior Grace Thanasack finished 3rd for the Vikings finishing 65th with a time of 20:12 as she showed her strength and experience battling all the way to the end with drive and passion. Kyleigh Cradlebaugh, a freshman making her first appearance at the Regional race, ran a Personal Best for the 4th consecutive race finishing 101st (20:54). Khloe Maxwell showed her patented toughness and improved by over 20 seconds from the OCC Meet running a 21:22 (128th). Lauren and Julie Charter, would complete the race for the Vikings, running close to a season best or a season best time as Lauren finished 130th (21:24) and Julie finished 138th (21:33). A great effort overall from a strong team, who knew the challenge that lied ahead and still showed the bravery to take on the challenge, put themselves out there, and ran their very best.
